Currently, my homepage displays the entire text of my posts. How do I get it like the preview version where it abridges the posts that are displayed on the homepage?
Hi, insert more tag between content.
– See in the image:

I have a lot of posts and so i used Evermore plugin http://wordpress.org/plugins/evermore/ . You choose where to cut the post, one time, for everypost. ;)
I think there should be a better way of doing this. More tags are one way, but the opening to a blog post can mean much different than what you need to write for the front page. Is there not another way to get the excerpts to show? Thanks
You can change the content showing function to excerpt showing. Open the format-standard.php file, replace the the_content function with the the_excerpt function.
I was looking for this too. But when I change it to the_excerpt, it does show the excerpt, nut it doesn’t show the CONTINUE READING. Nor any other link to read more. Can I add that?
Would be much appreciated!
Hi all,
Excerpt option added. New version is available on ThemeForest.
– Check the option Theme Options > Blog > Excerpt.
Excellent! Many thanks again.
One more thing: is it true that the CONTINUE READING function is not added to the excerpt? Of course it worlds when clicking on the header, but would be nice if it is has also that READ MORE link.
Thanks.
The excerpt option behavior in active and not:
Theme Options > Blog > Excerpt > No
The theme presses the full content of the posts. In this mode, the continue reading button appears if you add the more tag to the content editor.
Theme Options > Blog > Excerpt > Yes
The theme presses the excerpt of the posts and the continue reading button appears automatically. Because the excerpt function contains it.
Hey guys,
I’m a bit late on this thread but run into the same problem: I can’t seem to get the Continue Reading to work on my blog homepage, even though I edit my posts using the insert more tags and I have tried all the above suggestions.
I’m on Read version 3-1 and I don’t see Mr. Sali’s new theme option for excerpts. I am also running a child theme on my site and tried the following:
“Open the format-standard.php file, replace the the_content function with the the_excerpt function”
It gives the blog the required excerpt but doesn’t add the Continue Reading at the bottom.
How can I remedy this? All help appreciated.
Cheers
Hi, this is Bloggy WP forum.
– Update your theme to the latest version, then you will see the excerpt option.
You can download the latest version from ThemeForest.
Thanks
Hi Mehmet,
I’m not sure you have solved the problem.
Normally there are two ways to get an excerpt. One is to add the ‘More’-tag, another is to fill in the custom Excerpt (display options > Excerpt).
For the second option, custom excerpt (which is much more powerful because you can control the content), the Continue Reading button will not appear.
Or am I doing something wrong?
Hi, yes you are right. The Continue Reading button will not appear when you fill the Excerpt field (Screen Options > Excerpt). I will improve the theme for this. Thanks for your patience.
But, at this time, you can get the Continue Reading button in two ways:
1-) with the more tag,
OR
2-) set to Yes the theme excerpt option (Theme Options > Blog > Excerpt).
Hi Mehmet, have you already updated this excerpt field? Just checking.
