I am building my portfolio galleries, and have noticed the thumbnail pictures don’t look at all like the larger images they reference. The colors are flat and dull, like it’s the wrong color space. Also the thumbnail pictures are not sharp at all, like they are over compressed, or have had sloppy resizing.
When I click on a thumbnail and the full-size image opens, it too has these same defects, but immediately changes to the correct image appearance.
I am a Photoshop and digital photography expert, and am very particular about how my photography is displayed.
Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks,
David
Hi David,
I would recommend you to install and run regenerate thumbnails plugin for once;
https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
ThanksThanks for replying. I did this regenerate thumbnails twice, cleared the cache, cleared my browser history, and the photographs are the same.
What else should I try?
David
Hi David,
Could you provide me your url please?
ThanksHere is the page I have been working on:
http://brennanphotography.pairsite.com/portfolio/people-portraits/
A couple pictures are duplicates because I was testing different sizes.
Thanks,
David
Hi,
Can you see the same problem in our demo?
You are using very old version of the theme. Please download the latest version of the theme.
ThanksI can see the sharpness issue in the demo, but the colors look correct. The lack of sharpness looks like it does a real quick-and-dirty resizing.
I have updated the theme (I think). The thumbnails look the same.
David
Hello? Are there any other suggestions? The site looks terrible the way it is now.
David
Hi,
yes browsers does resizing for the thumbnail images to fit them in the screen, that might cause some sharpness issues, sorry but nothing to do about it as the thumbnail images should be resized to make that collage layout, and also i didn’t notice anything about colors.
Thanks.
Thanks for replying. The color is very different between the thumbnails and the full pictures. It looks similar to what happens with a profile mismatch. I see it on my portfolio, but not on the demo sample.
For a template design that caters to photographers who presumably want their work to look its best, these are serious issues.
Is there any way to rectify this color change?
David
Hi again, i just checked your url again, and personally i still can’t detect any shift in the colors, it looks fine to me, but if you think the resized image color is not same as the large one, it might be related with this post, please check it out;

Thanks.
Thank you for the reply.
I have since spent two weeks trying to get this problem fixed. It seems to be a fairly common problem that WordPress ignores or changes the color profiles when generating thumbnails.
I found two plugins that fix the two problems, but not at the same time. Imagemagick corrects the color issue, Sharpen Resized Images sharpens them; but they cancel each other out, so you can only get one correction or the other.
I converted my site to a WordPress system, and your template, because I was hoping it would make maintaining my web site easier. It is quite the opposite. I realize much, if not all, of this is WordPress’s fault, and not yours, but you are far better equipped to remedy this than I.
David
