Parent or Child Theme

    I have seen this explanation given but I do not understand.
    “A child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme.”
    So am I supposed to use the Parent theme? What is the use of the Child theme? What does “modifying the theme” entail?

    Hi @ketowoman
    You need to use the parent theme as a default. Some people know further customization like modify PHP files. And if they change PHP files, when they updated the theme, all PHP customizations will be gone. So they need to use the child theme.
