Hey, I am having a hard time trying to get the frontpage on the blog to just show a summary of the blog post instead of all the content.

I went to settings, reading, and set to display summary.
And tried most of the Yes/No options in the Theme Options blog category in the settings.

Hi, you can do it automatically with Evermore plugin or manually as described in this post.
