Earlier today I tried installing the most recent version of the Read WordPress theme. I followed instructions as stated in the “Updating Instructions” .txt file (including copying the translation files and putting in the new version directory), but the newer version eliminates much of my old site. Is there anything else I need to do to keep the old layout/formatting while updating versions?
It is very helpful that you’ve created the updates with a different name so I can install it easily. I’m having trouble with the next step though.
Above you say, ” Then go to your ftp and change the language files if you need.” How do I find my ftp and change the language files?
I’ve installed the updated theme but when I activate it I lose all of my changed settings and my edited css.
– You can use FileZilla client to send your language files to your ftp.
– The changes of the Theme Options will not be affected. Because they are in your database. Your edited .php or .css or .js files will be restored to default. So all theme modification should be done by using child themes not editing the theme files directly. ( http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes )
