I’ve added this code
.cd-item > a:before { background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4)!important;}
but doesn’t work

This custom css code should wory very well.

.cd-item>a:before { background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.4)!important; }

If you have cache plugin, please deactivate it and try it again. And also be sure that you are copying the code to the right place.
