Hi,
Wordpress is creating excerpt automatically. There are 2 ways to do that. You can insert more tag short-codes after couple of words which you like or in the excerpt area, you can copy some words how long you would like to.
ThanksI’m using the Quote format, and have part of the quote in the excerpt field. But on the blog index page, the full quote shows, not just the excerpt.
Choose an excerpt method for your quote format. I mean, don’t use “theme options > blog > excerpt” and “insert more tag” at a same time.
In other words, disable automatic excerpt functionality from theme options > blog > excerpt and add the “insert more tag” to your content OR don’t add “insert more tag” between your content and just activate the automatic excerpt functionality from theme options > blog > excerpt.

“I would die if I had to be confined.” is showing the full quote on the blog index page, but in the excerpt field for that post, I have: “For me, experiencing is knowing people all over the world and being able to photograph.”
I would prefer not to use the “more” tag; I would like to specify excerpts per post.

Are you using shortcodes for that or you are just creating a post and texting it and choosing quote format on the sidebar? Please be sure the steps. I just tested it on my demo website and it is working very well.Yes, I’m using the quote shortcode:

Don’t use shortcode for it. Just create a page and right down your quote and choose the type quote format for it. And use the excerpt area. Your problem will solved.
ThanksI removed the shortcode, which didn’t work, but changing the post format type to “standard” instead of “quote” fixed the issue. Thanks for the replies.
ETA: hmm, I just realized I’d really like to keep the quote format, I like the way that looks. But for me it seems that the excerpt function doesn’t work when quote format is selected.
Excerpt does work with the quote shortcode, but not with the quote format (just in case I didn’t make that clear).

I mean Quote post format. You can read it in the documentation. If excerpt does work with the quote shortcode, please keep quote format. Good luck =)

For me excerpt does work with the quote shortcode, but does not work with quote post format (even if I don’t use the quote shortcode).

Actually, it is working with quote post format, i tested it in our demo website again. There can be lots of reason. Maybe your plugins is affecting your format. You can deactivated all your plugin and download and copy a fresh copy.
Thanks.Hmm, still having trouble. I was using v 1.2, just upgraded to 1.2.4. Also, just disabled all plugins.
I just made a new post with quote shortcode, and using quote format. Excerpt is not working.
In theme options I have “yes” for blog excerpts.
