This is pretty picky, but when I have the search function enabled in the navigation bar, it looks like the word “Search” is sitting a couple of pixels below the other items in the bar.

Is this intentional (to make it stand out from the other items), or does it need tweaking?

yes search looks misaligned in you site, try this custom css;

#search-form label { top: 0px; }
