It seems that the “Portfolio” section of the documentation is sort of glossed over. I’m sure my lack of understanding WordPress and the Theme in general is what is breaking it but I’m here to ask for anyone’s help. Right now when I go to my Portfolio page, it shows 3 items, all imageless and they don’t link to anything. Assuming I don’t fix it after this post, it looks like this:

When I create the page for the Portfolio, I do it and just leave it blank. All the docs say is “Create a page for your “Portfolio” page.” After that the instructions are hard to follow.
So steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 are done.
Step 5 is assuming I can put anything in.
Step 6 is to create the 3 departments. What do these mean?
Step 7 Do they have to be checked though? Otherwise what’s the point of creating them?
Step 8 I’m assuming is just copy and paste the HTML code included.
Step 9 Left this alone
Step 10 Entered some text
Step 11 Left this alone
Step 12 Left this alone
Step 13 Tried to link to an image via URL and upload an image from my computer but it never showed up in the portfolio.

Can anyone shed any light on something I’m missing or something I don’t understand? Thank you.
