I have had the photographer theme for a long while now but recently everything seems to be acting differently, on the home page I have the full width template with a gallery inserted and the gallery should have 3 columns as selected in options, it only displays 2 columns no matter how many I specify.
On the posts page I had posts with gallery format, it used to display a portrait oriented image as a landscape thumbnail now it has changed to showing the full image. both of these behaviours used to be different and I have adjusted the settings.

I have tried re installing the theme and changing to different theme then changing back but it doesn’t solve anything

First of all i would recommend you to deactivate all your plugin and try it again.

I would recommend you to install and run regenerate thumbnails plugin for once and try it again;

Go to appearance > theme options > blog > choose blog sidebar (no) and btw your social icons in the wrong place please check out this topic as well http://www.pixelwars.org/forums/topic/social-icon-footer/
