Reading time "min read" inaccurate/inconsistent

I’m using the homepage that comes with the theme (the one demoed here: http://themes.pixelwars.org/readme-wp/homepage/ ), and I noticed a problem with my site. The reading time meta information which shows up as “# min read” on this page, is inaccurate and very inconsistent.

To see if this was a problem with my site’s customization I set up a separate website at https://readme-wp-theme.staging.code.qa with only the readme theme installed, and no plugins.

It’s running the latest version of WordPress which right now is 4.7, PHP 7, MySQL 5.6
    https://readme-wp-theme.staging.code.qa/info.php

I imported the official readme demo content, and the only changes I’ve made to the demo content, is I’ve deleted and pasted in demo copy to make each post a particular length., This makes it easy to test the reading time functionality. Sure enough, my testing site has the same problem which can be demonstrated on the homepage here:

If you view the page and look at the reading time of the articles, they don’t always correspond read time shown when you view the posts individually. In fact, they don’t even show up consistently. Reloading the home page (linked above) over and over shows a slightly different read time on each post every time. Some reload show all of the articles as one minute, some all ten minutes, but what’s shown is usually random a mix of numbers on each page reload. And it’s not one or two minutes off. The inaccuracy in minutes varies between about 1 to 10 minutes, so the errors are pretty significant.

I ran some automated tests reading the page time from the DOM, and on the homepage, the article meta for Reading Time was accurate less than 10% of the time. This feature is completely broken, on a brand new install.

I’m aware that there are plugins and other scripts around the web that can estimate read time and add it as a post meta value. And I may be able to write some code or mix and match something that works, but I wouldn’t want to go to that effort when Reading Time post meta is one of the advertised features of the theme and one of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

I’m hoping there’s a setting somewhere that I missed, or perhaps something else I can do to make this feature work as expected. What would you suggest?

    Thanks!

Hi, For now, you can use the plugin for this feature. The numbers given are average values and calculated by counting the number of words. I will forward this topic to our developer. He will find a solution and keep you updated.
    Thanks for your patience.

Any progress on this broken feature? My support license is about to expire and I still haven’t heard back.
