I am sure it something I have done wrong, but my theme is loading very slowly and as of yet it has almost no content on it! Are there some obvious mistakes I might have made? Seems early for it to have caught a bug.

Hi, deactivate your plugins and try again. If the performance is good, then activate them one by one to find which one is the bad practice.

Hi Waldorf, I found the same thing happening, when it wasn’t a problem before. I’m not sure if it’s a setting that I made, or something in the update … But I noticed the featured images on my homepage loading very slowly. When I right-clicked the featured image, to ‘view image,” I discovered that they were the full size images, not the resized (600 pixel) downsized ones.

I’ve been uploading the full size image into wp, and then editing them within the wordpress media screen – save – and then “update” – refresh – save as featured image. It seem to be working, but then suddenly no longer was replacing with the resized, smaller file sized, image.

To solve the problem, I just resize the image to 600 pixels before I upload it now. That seems to have worked. My homepage loads quickly again.

Bloggy WP theme adjusts images to 2x size than the content to make them sharpen in high resolution screens, especially retina displays. If you upload an image smaller dimensions, then Bloggy WP theme uses it as is.
