When I upload the theme update, will it have a different name already? Or I need to rename my version1 prior to uploading the updated theme? Also will the custom entries I added to the style tab – custom css carry over? or I need to copy and paste them in?
I haven’t been sure if those entries were actually making a child theme “on-the-fly” or not.
No reply? I can’t be the only one wonder about this! Sheesh.
I might as well share how it went for me. Since I’ve only recently started modifying the theme, I thought I would just live dangerously and upload the updated theme, without renaming anything.
1. FIRST, however, I did at least copy my custom css (from the style tab in theme options) and paste it into a notes document… for just a little bit of insurance.
2. Then I went to THEMES – and uploaded the new theme zip file.
3. I looked at the preview, which looked ok, crossed my fingers, held my breathe, clicked ACTIVATE.
4. Breathed a sigh of relief, when I checked my site and all looked well. It did seem to overwrite the previous version, because I don’t see two Bloggy themes on the THEMES screen.
All of my edits seemed to carryover automatically.
I don’t see a whole lot that has changed, really, (maybe because I had already made several minor fixes in the custom CSS). But I do really, REALLY like the way the navigation bar scrolls down for the first few inches. That’s really cool! Did it do that before and I didn’t notice?
