I had a look at the functions.php and found that theme support for post-thumbnails was only enabled for ‘post’, ‘portfolio’ and ‘gallery’ post types. Adding ‘page’ and ‘tribe_events’ respectively to that array solved my problem.

Unfortunately the Featured Images checkbox is not available to me for the affected pages/post types.

When creating a new page, boxes only exist for “Page Attributes”, “Sidebar”, “SEO” , “Custom Fields”, “Discussion”, “Slug”, “Author”, “Sharing” (SEO and Sharing coming from Jetpack)

Thanks for the quick response! I tried deactivating all plugins, but still didn’t have the option to add a Featured Image to pages. And with just The Events Calendar plugin active there was no option to add Featured Image to new events either.

I tried switching to another theme with all the same plugins installed and active, and then adding a Featured Image to any kind of post/page was not an issue. Going back to Read WP (which exposed some issues with the Custom CSS function*) the Featured Image option wasn’t there anymore.

*As for the Custom CSS function problem (which I do not need help solving, but could be interesting for you to troubleshoot): I had some Custom CSS configured via Read WP before changing to the other theme. Returning to Read WP the Edit CSS option was missing from the Appearance menu. Fortunately I had a separate tab open from before I changed the team from Read WP the first time, and there I could still click the Edit CSS menu. After pressing the Save Stylesheet button the Edit CSS option was again available sitewide.
