Is there a way to change that and choose any photo to be the featured image?
The issue for me seems to be with the “Featured Image” function. I have the department “Portrait” and within Portrait I have “Family” and “Lifestyle”. The Featured Image on the most recently created sub department defaults as the main department’s (Portrait) Featured Image. I need to figure out how out how to change the Featured Image of only the department. Thanks!
I just realized you made the “Portfolio” page a link to new test portfolio I created. I am still having trouble understanding how to make the sub departments work. So I now understand what you are saying about how I initially had a department named “Portraits” and then a sub department named “Family” and “Portrait”. I’d also like to change the cover photo / featured photo for each department, but I am not sure how.
Hi, the page I was using for my new portfolio “Portfolio Test Page” is now gone. This is the part I was needing help with. Additionally, now my old portfolio page, “Portfolio” no longer works nor do any of the links. How do I restore what I had? I have not made any changes.
For sure! Just sent it! Thanks!

So for instance, when you click Portrait I want a page to come up that has the Family rectangle, and then when I click that I want it to take me to the Family gallery. However, what is currently happening is when I click Portrait, a page with the same department Portraits comes up again.
Thanks for your reply! I’ve gotten the general concept of this figured out and read the documentation. However, I cannot get the function of a “sub-department” to work. I have created departments, sub departments, parent pages, etc. I have also organized the menu in the order I would like things to appear. I still cannot figure out how to make the portfolio departments appear in the order I want them to. Additionally, I have a department called Portrait. I want Family to be a sub department but Family overrides and just becomes the portrait category.
Hi,
I checked out the related topic, however, my screen options are not the same. My screen options show “Boxes” with the option of Pages, Posts, Portfolio, Custom Links, Categories, Tags, Format, Departments, Portfolio tags. Underneath that there are “Advanced menu properties” with the options of Link Target, Title Attribute, CSS Classes, Link Relationship, and Description. I do not have the option to add new departments.
Thanks, this worked!
I want to use this feature on my homepage.
Additionally, I do not have the option to choose format gallery on the right hand side.
Hi,
Thanks for your response! The “previous” and”next” buttons are now working, however my images are still not referencing correctly. I used the shortcode you gave and in the [slide image=”#”], I put the ID of the photo where the # was. How do I properly reference these images?
