You should set the widgets. Go to appearance > customize > widgets > drag and drop the main slider and link box to featured area.

The post has to be a sticky post to show up in the main slider. If you avoid the show the same post under the slider then you should watch this steps.

Hi, You should add all of them to blog featured area (if your homepage is blog) or to page featured area (if your home is a page) and choose width 100% for the main slider and choose 25% width if you have 4 link boxes.
