Your featured image should be bigger than 760px X 507px. When you set up all your image correctly, I would recommend you to install and run regenerate thumbnails plugin for once and try it again;

Edit your portfolio page, choose photo gallery 2 template on the right hand side.
Go to visual tab and edit the gallery. Under the gallery settings, choose link to none and save it.
